Worldwide, over 55 million people live with dementia, including more than 6 million Americans.
Dementia refers to a decline in memory and cognitive abilities that interferes with daily life—it is not a normal part of aging. The most common cause is Alzheimer’s disease, a progressive brain disorder that leads to loss of brain cells and function.

    • Trouble driving to familiar places, organizing tasks, or following game rules.
  4. Confusion with time or place

💬 What to Do if You Notice a Sign

  • See a doctor: Cognitive changes may have multiple causes, some treatable. Early diagnosis can help with planning, accessing support, and exploring treatment options.
  • Have a conversation: If you notice changes in yourself or a loved one, talk to a trusted person as soon as possible.
